Shuoyuan Bai was born in Shenzhen, in southern China. He came to the United States to continue his high school and college education in 2007. He graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine, and completed his undergraduate degree at Pratt Institute in New York. After working for Alex Sepkus Co. as a bench jeweler for a year, he attended the M.F.A Jewelry program at Savannah College of Art and Design to further his education.
The influence of culture is evident in the theme of Bai’s work. His work is inspired by traditional ideologies, as well as decorative ornaments. He emphasizes the implications behind the actual pieces, and visual appeal through fine craftsmanship.
Bai’s work has been exhibited in Pratt Institute Jewelry Exhibition in April 2013, Pratt Institute Jewelry Showcase in September 2013, and Pratt Institute BFA Jewelry Thesis Exhibition in April 2014. Two pieces can also be seen on the Ring Liaison blog.
